What are plantar warts?

Plantar warts are small growths that usually appear on the weight-bearing surfaces of your feet. They are caused by HPV (Human papillomavirus) which feeds off of tiny blood vessels in your feet. Plantar warts are usually flat lesions with a rough surface. At the center of the wart, tiny black dots serve as the blood supply to the wart itself. These warts can make it painful for anyone to walk on their feet. The warts are also contagious and should be treated upon discovery.

How is it treated?

  • Debridement

  • Salicylic acid

  • Cryotherapy

  • Laser

  • Blistering agent

  • Bleomycin injection

Typically, 1-3 treatments are needed to eradicate the warts. In more severe cases, a surgical excision may be necessary.
